You know what is a great feeling – when professionals can work together to benefit the communities we live, work and play in.  As building officials we often use the term “First Preventers” as we share a common mission:  to prevent harm by ensuring compliance with building safety codes before a disaster or mishap occurs.   Having partners like the professionals at Emanuel Engineering to assist us with our review and understanding of engineering practices and participate in our Association membership training events has proven to be an avenue of collaboration and communication.   Together we are building safer communities through code compliance and enforcement.

On February 16^th, 2015 we encountered a potential catastrophic roof collapse at our local Elementary School due to extreme snow loading. Having worked with Emanuel Engineering in the past, I called Fred Emanuel to explain our concerns. He immediately sent David Emanuel and Robert Gould to meet with us at the school with an impressive “911 response.” The two set to work right away looking over the original drawings of the school and after an extensive site review suggested some remedial answers to our problem. Thus with such a great experience, we will continue to utilize Emmanuel Engineering in our future endeavors.

For over the past ten years, it has been my sincere pleasure to work with the engineering staff of Emanuel Engineering, specifically Tony Manzi, for all of our curtainwall and storefront design calculation needs. Angle Pond Woods is a condominium of 116 units each with a pressure treated wood deck. The units were built in 2005 through 2010. We started to see early rotting of the wood. We commissioned Emanuel Engineering to perform a survey of the decks to provide the APW Board with guidance regarding our problem. During the inspection it was determined that we also had a problem with conformance to the building codes. This attention to detail by Fred Emanuel and Bob Gould and the subsequent design work to rectify the situation provides APW with a sound basis for solving our problems.
